Galanthus elwesii 'Yuletide' (in-the-green)
Galanthus elwesii 'Yuletide' (in-the-green)
A lusty, large-flowered Phil Cornish selection which is seldom seen despite being selected in the 1990s. As its name suggests, flowering takes place around Christmas (not guaranteed if you live further north!) The inner segments bear a bold heart-shaped mark on their apical three quarters - such a large mark in this variety is exceedingly rare. Increase is steady. Among the otherwise unembellished G. elwesii, this is one of my favourite namings, even today. 'Yvonne Hay' shares a similar marking but is much taller, flowering at least three to four weeks later.
