A large and lusty cultivar exemplifying the 'giantness' often associated with its species. A tall-growing plant (c. 25cm), the flowers are proportionate, augmented by a bold inner segment marking among among the largest of all cultuvars of G. elwesii var monostictus to which it belongs. Distributed by the well-known plantsman, Harry Hay, originally under the name 'Maximus' from his garden at Margery Hill Pig Farm in Surrey and subsequently named for his wife.
